My mother, Shirley O’Brien, had been suffering for about four years with numbness and pain in her legs, mainly in her thighs, from her hips down to her knees. She fell several years ago and broke her hip, and since that time, she had been experiencing significant discomfort and pain in her legs. This caused her great difficulty walking and left her with a constant fear of falling because of the weakness in her legs.

We were given the name of Dr. Ryan Berger, and we went to see him at his office. He was extremely professional, kind, and patient. My mother is 91 years old, only 4'11", and weighs 89 pounds. She had seen many other doctors and surgeons regarding the problems with her legs before meeting Dr. Berger.

She explained to Dr. Berger what had been bothering her, and he was extremely kind and patient with her.After reviewing her MRI and other tests, he explained that she had problems with her lumbar spine and would need surgery on her lower back. He told her that he had performed a number of surgeries on elderly patients and that they had done very well. He assured her that he would do everything he could to give her the best possible outcome.

When my mother had her hip surgery several years ago, she experienced some cognitive changes. She used to be able to balance her checkbook, but afterward, she began having difficulty with tasks like that. Because of this, she was not only afraid of having another surgery, but she was also very concerned about losing more of her cognitive abilities.

Dr. Berger took the time to address all of her concerns. He explained that he would perform the surgery using a minimally invasive approach and would work with the anesthesia team to minimize any potential impact on her cognitive function.

She had the surgery two weeks ago, and on that very same day, she was up and walking the hallways of Beaumont Hospital. In fact, she was walking so fast that we, her family, kept telling her to slow down!

She has noticed a tremendous difference in her legs ever since the surgery. My mother is extremely happy and pleased with the results. She absolutely adores Dr. Berger. She has had no changes in her cognitive abilities and says that she feels wonderful.

Of course, our entire family is extremely pleased with the outcome of her surgery. We are very grateful to Dr. Berger for the care he provided to our mother.

This was first visit with this Doctor, so some questions didn't apply. But I felt I got superior care and attention from the moment I walked in. Excellent as my facility and staff.
